The object of the study was to investigate the influence of phosphorus and potassium fertilization absence on tne grain yield, and the grain quality parameters of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L). The trial was established in the years 2003-2005 in the maize growing area in the central part of the East-Slovak Lowland on gleyic Fluvisol (locality Milhostov). The field treatments were realized in natural conditions without irrigation with three variants of fertilization: F1 - 15 kg/ha N, 27 kg/ha P, 90 kg/ha K; F2 - 15 kg/ha N a 27 kg/ha P; F3 -15 kg/ha N. Absence of phosphorus and potassium fertilization (variant F2 and F3) resulted in higher grain yield. Qualitative parameters were possitively affected, too. Moderate deterioration in quality was found on one-thousand grain weight. The highest grain yield with optimal qualitative parameters was at the variant with nitrogen and phosphorus (F2). The smallest annual differencies within the content of crude protein were at the variant with nitrogen (F3). The fertilization significantly influenced the grain yield nd the content of crude protein (P less than 0.01), and the one-thousand grain weight (P less than 0.05). Its influence on the content of starch was not significant. The year determined the growing share on the yield variability (P less than 0.01). Its influence on the crude protein and the starch content was at the 0.05 level (P less than 0.05).
