The quality of life and its progress is one of the main strategic goals of the European policy. It is also mentioned as one of the main politic aims in the national strategy of the Slovak Republic, as well as in the regional and municipal documents. The quality of life has its spatial dimensions. Despite many comparative advantages of the countryside, the quality of rural life is still being regarded inferior to the urban one. Because of the dependency of the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development on the Slovak University of Agriculture, the research of this faculty will be directed towards the problem solving of the quality of life in the countryside. It will be oriented towards particular problems of villages and rural regions, where the economic, social, institutional, and environmental circumstances of high standard of the quality of life are created.
