Study was conducted to determine the effect of year, season, farm location, farm size, and farm effects on bulk tank milk composition, i.e., fat (Fat, percent), protein (Prot, percent), lactose (Lact, percent), solid not fat (SNF, percent), total solid (TS, percent), and somatic cell count (SCC, *10**(3) cells/ml). Those data were from 1,065 farms, which were member of a private collecting milk center in central of Thailand, and were randomly sampled from those productions produced from 27 January 2004 through 29 May 2007. Years were classified as 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Seasons were hot (March to June), rainy (July to October) and cold (November to February). Farm locations were classified as amphur, i.e., Muaklek, Wang Muang, Phatta Nikhom, and Pak Chong. Farm sizes were defined as small (less than 10 cows milked per day), medium (between 10 and 19 cows milked per day), and large (20 and more cows milked per day). The considering factors were statistically tested. Least square means were calculated and used to compare the studied traits. The result showed that generally milk produced by the farmers had Fat 3.37 +- 0.44 percent, Prot 3.00 +- 0.22 percent, Lact 4.45 +- 0.38 percent, SNF 8.21 +- 0.38 percent, TS 11.68 +- 0.82 percent, and SCC 629.86 +- 660.57*10**(3) cells/ml. Variation of milk compositions were statistically influenced (P LT 0.01) by the difference among interaction factors between year x season, and among those between farm location x farm size. Difference among individual farm had effect on the variation of milk composition less than 1 percent of the total variation for all of the studied traits. These results implied that, in order to improve quality of milk, milk production in different year and season, and in different farm location and farm size, require the different strategy to prevent and solve the problem.
