[Result on improvement of Phuthinh cucumber variety]

Cucumber is main fruit vegetable in Vietnam with annual grown areas of 12,000 ha and production of 200,000 tons. Of which, nearly one third is for processing. Phuthinh is main variety with good quality of fruit for bottled processing. However, unreasonable protocol of seed reservation and mixed cultivation of different varieties had made the variety degenerated and low yield. After improved, good original characteristics of the Phuthinh variety has obtained, especially in high inbred. In fertilizer formula of 90 N and 120 K2O, the spacing between plant and plant -30 cm, between row and row - 60 cm, the cucumber has given the highest yield. The demonstration in Kimdong - Hungyen showed that, improved cucumber has given higher yield than farmer's variety of Phuthinh from 55 percent to 59 percent.
