The accumulation of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, zinc, cadmium and lead in roots and shoots of tobacco plants have been studied in two tobacco types – oriental and Virginia – in a long-term experiment. The total amount and available content of the elements in the soil were determined. Leaves from the first, second and third priming were harvested for analysis in full maturity, while roots, stems and racemes – at thee end of the vegetation period. A similarity in uptake of nutritional elements in different plant organs was found in both tobacco types. The content of the main nutritional elements nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium is highest in the racemes in both the oriental and the Virginia tobaccos. The removal of racemes in Virginia tobacco during the bud formation/flowering will contribute to transportation of these elements to leaves that are the main product. The concentration of N and Р in the leaves is highest in the third priming, while that of K – in the second. Calcium content is highest in the leaves where highest concentration is observed in the mature leaves of the first priming. The concentration of iron, copper and lead is highest in the roots, while that of manganese, zinc and cadmium – in the leaves. The content of all the microelements is lowest in the stems. Both tobacco types express clear tendency of decreasing iron content from first to third priming and increasing it in the racemes. The racemes have distinctively high copper and zinc content. The obtained results can be used in optimization of the crop production for increasing the quality of the end product.
