STRATEGY FOR IMPROVING THE REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE IN SOWS FROM A PIG INTEGRAL CENTRE IN THE CUBAN PROVINCE OF LAS TUNAS | ESTRATEGIA PARA MEJORAR EL COMPORTAMIENTO REPRODUCTIVO DE CERDAS EN UN CENTRO INTEGRAL PORCINO DE LAS TUNAS

Con el objetivo de realizar cambios en el manejo zootécnico de las cerdas en reproducción para disminuir el tiempo improductivo de las mismas, mediante la reducción de los días de cerdas vacías, se desarrolló un trabajo en el Centro Integral Porcino Número 2 "Enrique Pérez Ávila", en el municipio Jesús Menéndez de la Empresa Porcina Las Tunas, en la provincia cubana de Las Tunas, La evaluación se condujo durante los años 2003 y 2004. Se utilizaron 817 cerdas F1 agrupadas según paridad y condición corporal. Se analizaron los días de cerdas vacías, gestantes, en lactación, así como los días improductivos. Se trazó una estrategia de trabajo en el segundo semestre del 2003 al introducir cambios en el manejo zootécnico; entre los más importantes se destacó la diferenciación del manejo de las cerdas adultas con respecto al de las más jóvenes, y la reducción de los días de lactancia. Los datos fueron procesados siguiendo el método de los modelos lineales generales que tuvo en cuenta los efectos de año y paridad, así como su interacción. El análisis estadístico fue realizado a través de un paquete biométrico ad hoc. La estrategia trazada logró mejorar los indicadores reproductivos en el alo 2004 con una ganancia de 97 937.60 pesos cubanos por concepto de preceba terminal.

An experiment was made with the objective of performing changes in pig management in order to reduce the unproductive period of sows from the Pig Integral Centre Number 2 "Enrique Pérez Avila", belonging to the Pig Enterprise of Las Tunas, in the Cuban municipality JesusMenéndez. The evaluation was conducted during 2003 and 2004. A total of 820 F1 sows were grouped according to body condition and parity. Indices evaluated were empty days, lactating, pregnant and unproductive days. The working hypothesis was that it should be possible to improve sow productivity by reduction of empty days, and therefore a working strategy was planned during the second semester of 2003. Changes in zootechnical management were done; and among the most important modifications it was highlighted the differentiation of sows as compared to gilts and also the reduction of the lactating days. Data were processed according the general lineal model analysis taking into account the effects of year and parity and the year x parity interaction. The statistical analysis was carried out by a biometrical software ad hoc.
