The physical properties of wood exhibit variability within and between species. These create different problems associated with processing and utilization. In Ethiopia, studies of the working properties of wood and their importance in services were not given much attention. The present study investigates t he working properties of Juniperus procera (M.Bieb) grown in Arba-Gugu, - central Ethiopia. The investigated working properties were planning, nailing/screwing and gluing. Standard test methods wee used for the investigation of each property. The planning test esults showed that planning woods from J.procera with 25o 30o and 35o angles at all depths produce excellent smooth surface without raised and wooly grain defects as well as with minimum torn grain and chip mark defects. Blunting effect on the blade was not seen at all planning angles and depths. The screwing test results showed that driving screws was not difficult and neither cracks nor split wee observed. On the contrary, nailing, though not difficult to drive the nails, produced several cracks and splits which indicated the use of nails as a fastening material on woods from J. procera may not be advisable. Applications of Tiger glue and Vinavil glue were effective in undiluted from than diluted form. However, comparison of the two types of glue revealed that Tiger glue is better than Vinavil glue in fastening the woods from J.procera.
