Sylepta semilugens Hmps. (Pyralidae) may become serious pests of Cola nitida in plantations. Five larval instars were observed and the larval stage covered about 29 days (range 18 - 32 days). Pupal stage lasted for II days (range 9 - 14 days) when reared under laboratory conditions. 0.25 per cent Gammalin 20 (Gamma benzene hexachloride) when sprayed to drench the trees, resulted in the best control of the Pyralid moth amongst other tested insecticides. Braconid wasps were observed to parasitise about 3 per cent of larvae from the unsprayed field.
