Effect of three different levels of flour mill offal ("wheat bran") from the Tema feed mill on the performance of growing pigs

Thirty castrates and 30 gilts were given three dillerent rations, with 10 castrates and 10 gilts on each ration. The rations D", D, and D, had 110ur mill offal levels 01'0, 30 and 60 per cent respectively. A completely randomized design with two replical10ns was used and equal numbers of castrates and gilts wcrc 011each ration in each replication. Pigs in each pen were group-fed and watered ad Iihitum. The animals were weighed weekly after 18 h filsting. Feed intake was measured daily and increase in body length was measured with animals in the second replication. Generally, increasing level of 110ur mill oflill did not affect significantly (1'0.05) growth rate, fced conversion eniciency and economy of feeding. Profit margins were slightly decreased with the addition of 110urmill omll. Feed intake was significantly (PO.O I) increased when l10ur mill offal was used. Weekly increase in bodylenglh was significantly (PO.OI) reduced with the addition of 1lour mill offal. Gills also had significantly (1'0.01) highcr increases in body length than castrates.
