Effect of seed tate and row width combination on grain yield of Duorado Precoce, IR 442 and IR 20 rice cultivars grown under the rainfed lowland system was studied at Nyankpala and Atebubu in the Northern Region and Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana, respectively. Optimum combination for all cultivars was the 80 kglha seed rate planted in a square pattern of20 cm x 20 cm row spacing. Cultivars x seed rate/ row spacing interaction was significant with ttie tall, early and low tillering cultivar, Duorado Precoce, attaining its maximum yield at the high seed rate (lOO kglha)/20 cm x 20 cm row spacing. The relatively late maturing but high tillering cultivars IR 442 and IR 20 both attainetl maximum yield at the 80 kglha seed rate/20 cm x 20 cm row spacing combination. Narrow rows (15 cm) had yield advantage over wide rows (25 cm) mainly as a result of a higher panicle number inspite of the fact that there was less incidence of blast disease in the wide rows.
