In Ghana, as elsewhere, use is made of the indigenous plant spedes in curing diseases. The acquisition of the knowledge of using these local plants as sources of medicine is by the traditional method and is not usually written down, neither is there as yet any herbal school in which these methods are taught. The traditional healing method is passed on from one generation to the other. In this paper, some of these methods have been mentioned on the basis of information obtained from some of the traditional healers themselves. In addition to this, the traditional uses in Ghana and elsewhere of sixteen herbaceous plants from various families in curing diseases have been described.
