Determination of damages rate resulting from decay on Leather and pickle in East Azarabaijan.

Skin is the first material for other industries such as shoe, bag and made of leather cloth.Some factors include: rearing, slaughter and production management affect on its quality.East Azarbyjan province with more than 8225083 bestial unit and production of 1438265 skin is one of the main centers for leather and pickle in Iran. Therefore the project of determination of inflicted damages in skin executed in this province. In order to determination of rearing, slaughter and processing damages , during various seasons, every month randomly about 1200 skin were selected randomaly from at least four producing plants Damages from rearing in different stages of animal life and poor managment such as animal diseases, animal health station, shearing , wound, scratch, and branding . Damages from slaughter and processing management were peeling, skin salting, conserve and storage investigated . Damages related to poor management in leather production was such as production process that determined by investigation group and related questionnaires were completed. Finally data from questionnaires were analyzed through non parametric statistical and multiple regression methods by SPSS and SAS softwares. The results indicated that effects of Pox, knife injuries and venosity had the most damages in Pickle respectively 13.45, 12.45, and 5.8 percent. Knife injuries, Pox, hypodermis's had caused the most damages in goat skin 5.9, 4.1 and 3.65 percent respectively. Knife injuries and autolysis respectively with 22.27 and 11.3 percent had the greatest damages in buffalo hide. Knife injuries, autolysis and hypodermosis' with 15.36, 5.21 and 4.8 percent had the greatest damages in cow hide, respectively. After all knife injuries had caused the greatest damages in the all investigated skin whether cow or buffalo hide and goat or sheep skin. The relationship between price and most surveyed variable were moderate, but relationship between damages with each other factors was weak. The main problem of productive units was related to supply fresh pelt and marketing.
