Investigation of the factors affecting on pistachio producers knowledge in Ardakan city with emphasis on pistachio research.

The behavior and individual, social and economical characteristics of farmers and their relationship with production process were less considered by policy makers on this field. Decision making disregard to the above considerations is the main reason of misallocation of resources in agricultural sector. Also, policies might be not accepted by farmers. Yazd province is considered as the second province in pistachio producing and Ardakan is one of the important cities of the province in this regard. Also, establishing new pistachio research station of Ardakan entails policy makers to have information on producer's technical knowledge. The research population in this study was pistachio producers in Ardakan. Simple random sampling method was used. Questionnaire was applied for data collection and 65 farmers were interviewed. The results showed that the most important information chanals used by farmers are neighbours knowledge and experiences, contact with extension workers contact with, researchers, education courses, TV programs, radio programs and extension publications respectivly. Farmers believed that the efficancy of these canal, respectively are, neighbours knowledge, contact with researchers, education courses, contact with extension workers, extension publications, TV programs and radio programs. The results, also, indicated that farmer's knowledge regard to horticulture, irrigation and plant protections science are 57٪, 43.6٪and 59٪, respectively. The results also show that more than 80٪of farmer's decisions were base on economic criterion.
