Investigation the Occurrence of Sheep and Goats Theileriosis in Kerman Province

Theileriosis that is an important protozoan disease of rnminants cauases high economic losses to animal housbandry. Theileria lestoquardi (T. hirci) a most pathologic protozoan agent is the cause of malignant theileriosis of sheep and goats.The main clinical sings in sheep are hyperthermia, increased nasal discharge, jaundice, enlargement of lymph nodes and inappetence.During 1995-1997 this study carried out. This progect dealt with investigating the sings were noticed, lymph node biopsies were carried out as well. in each case a present of T. Lestoquardi in Kerman province. The investigating method was based on randomly blood smearing the sheep and, in some cases when the above mentionde questionaire that would record data an the individual (presence or absence of clinical sings) as well as herd bases was filled. Animal were searched for the presence of ticks wich were collected in 70% alcohol for later identification. Blood smears were air dried, fixed with absolute methanol, stainde with Giemsa stain and studied under a light microscope for presence of the parasite. The results showed that the parasite could be found in all the smear prepared of animals from different parts of the province. Schizont were found in the livers (8%) and lymph nodes (4%). The post mortem examination revealed interstitial pneuomonia (36%), Pulmonary emphsema (32%) and pulmonary oedema (16%) to be prodominant.The number of ticks collected were 129, which sixty nine of that, male, inclueded Hyalomma detritum (no:29), H. anatolicum anatolicum (no:24), Heamaphysalis (spp) (no:6) Rhipicephalus sanguinous (no:3) and Dermacentor (spp) (no:6). We can conclude that theileriosis of sheep and goats caused by Theileria Lestoquardi is present in Kerman, Jirrojt, Kahnooj, Bamm and other parts of province.
