A Strategy for Expanding Export to Japan through Investigation on Japanese Abalone Markets

Along with the recent technical development of domestic raising abalone industry, its amount has been significantly increasing since 2003. Meanwhile, the amount of its export was 432 tons in 2006, which has been the highest, and much attention has been paid to it since it has become one of the 5th export articles of domestic raising aquaculture products in Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze Japanese abalone market that has accounted for more than 90% of the amount of export for Korean abalone. Case studies were main tools for the study. Major founding was as follow. Japan abalone production, distribution and consumption, Import and export trend and investigated their characteristics in detail and analyzed the actual conditions of Japanese abalone market and its limitations. The abalone production of Japan is point in high cost. Japan restricted condition is many in production of the prohibition of fishing and the discharge enterprise. Also the import quantity of the korea abalone increased. Then, it suggested the comprehensive strategy for expanding export of Korean abalone to Japan in the future.
