The aim of the study was to evaluate the nutrition value of thirteen Latvia origin sring barley varieties as a feed for ruminants. The study, including field experiments and analysis of grain physical and chemical traits, was carried out at the Stende State Institute of Cereal Breeding from 2004 to 2006. Assessment was based on grain physical and chemical traits using integral evaluation values (SD). According to integral evaluation of feed grain quality traits the best results were shown by spring barley varieties 'Gāte', 'Abava' and 'Rūja' (SD=9.0-11.4 is less than or =SDvid-s=11.6) which were acknowledged to be the most suitable for nutritional requirements of ruminants.
