The large population of insertional mutations induced by As/Ds-mediated gene tagging methods were developed for functional analysis of rice genes and for breeding using agronomically important genes. The aims of this study were conducted to find the free radical scavenging and anticancer activities for utilization of crossing materials to improve new functional cultivars and develop functional resources using extracts of rice grains from insertional mutants induced by As/Ds-mediated gene tagging system in rice. Among the tested accessions, rice grain extracts have shown varietal differences of free radical scavenging activity by DPRH to 300 ug/ml. The rice grains have shown wide antioxidant activity with IC50 values ranging from 315.0 1000 ug/ml. The six high antioxidant activity accessions have been selected among the 1000 accessions. Anti cancer activities with IC50 values in MTT assay ranged from 290.0 to greater or equal to 1000 ug/ml. The three high anticancer activity accessions have been selected among the 1,000 accessions.
