Yo study the efficacy of different pre-emergence herbicides for weed management in cotton

The study was carried out to examine the efficacy of different pre-emergence herbicides in suppressing cotton weeds and subsequent effects on growth and yield contributing characters of cotton. The weed species found competing with cotton crop were; Jungle rice, (Echinochloa colonum), Deep root grass (Desmostachya bipinnata) and Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon) as the grass weeds. Among sedges, Purple nut sedge (Cyperus rotundus) was found infesting cotton crop, whereas in case of broad leaved weeds, Carpet weed (Trianthema Portula cestrum), Field bind weed, (Convolvulus arvensis) Amaranthus (Digeria arvensis) and Cressa (Cressia cretica) were found in the experimental cotton fields. The highest weed density of 68.50 weeds m-2 was recorded in the weedy check for full season (control), followed by 56.15, 52.75 and 44.00 weeds m-2 under pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin @ 2.00 lit per ha.
