Effect of different mulch methods on weed management in cotton

The study was carried out to investigate the effect of different mulch method on the weed control and subsequent effects on growth and yield contributing characters of cotton. Major characters in relation to weed flora and weed density were specially recorded and growth and yield contributing characters of economic importance were also measured. The observations on weed flora were recorded by personal identification of the weeds present in the experimental fields, while the weed density was recorded by counting the total number of weeds in each plot. The maximum weed density (57.00 weeds m-2) was recorded in the control plots where no mulching was carried out and the crop was left unweeded; while the lowest weed density of 12.75 m-2 was recorded under interculturing. Among other mulching treatments, the crop mulched with hand weeding had lowest weed density of 16.75 m-2 followed by the weed density of 18.75 m-2 recorded in the plots mulched with plastic strips and 24.00 m-2.
