Attractiveness of different colour traps for the determination of population of mango bark beetle

To monitor the mango bark beetle, plastic sheets (9"x12") of 3 different colours viz. black, green and blue installed at 1', 3' and 6' level. The effect of attractiveness of colours and heights were determined. The results further revealed that the bark beetle population remained higher from February 2006 to June 2006. The mean temperature for that period ranged between 23.12 degree C to 33.46 degree C and relative humidity 48.57% to 76.00%. Maximum mean number of (506.16) beetles was recorded on green plastic traps followed by (215.75) beetles on black traps and (83.75) beetles on blue colour traps. With regards to number of bark beetles on colour traps at different heights, the maximum mean number of the beetles (344.25) was recorded at height of 1ft followed by (268.00) beetles at 3ft level and (193.41) at 6ft level. It is concluded that maximum number of beetles was attracted on green plastic colour traps as compared to all other traps. Ma ximum number of beetles was recorded from February 2006 to June 2006. The Mean temperature ranged between 23.12 degree C to 33.46 degree C and relative humidity ranged from 48.57% to 76.00%. Maximum number of beetles was recorded on trap installed at 1ft level above the ground level followed by 3ft and 6ft level. Least number of beetles was recorded on Trap installed at Height of 6ft above ground level.
