In 2000-2003 at Swojec Experimental station of Agricultural University at Wroclaw (Poland) an experiment was conducted to determine changes in the numbers of weed seeds in soil under simplifications in tillage, direct sowing and varying nitrogen fertilization. The studies were carrying out for winter triticale growing in crop rotation: sugar beet - spring wheat - pea - winter triticale. Direct sowing increased total number of weed seeds in ploughing layer compared to traditional tillage system. Seeds of Chenopodium album were the most numerous weed species. Increased nitrogen fertilization significantly increased weed seeds in ploughing layer irrespective of tillage system
