Results of breeding value evaluation of Polish Red and Simmental bulls [Pt. 1]

In the 2009/1 evaluation the multi-trait Blup Animal Model was used for evaluation of the breeding values of sires and cows. In the Red Polish breed, 258 sired and 2941 cows were evaluated, 44 percent sires had 10 or more daughter. The cows calved in 509 herds and 1805 herd-year-season subclasses (HYS). The number of HYS subclasses decreased in the both second and third lactation. In the 2009/1 evaluation 1066 Simmental sires and 9000 cows were evaluated by the multi-trait Blup Animal Model, 213 sires had 110 or more daughter. The cows calved in 1250 herds and 3767 HYS subclasses. The number of HYS subclasses decreased in the second lactation by 27 percent and the third lactation by 46 percent
