Two field experiments were conducted (2002-04) to determine the response of species to competition in additive type of mixture during growing season. In the first experiment spring barley and triticale were grown in pure stand and in mixture at two nitrogen fertilizer rates: 0 kg N/ha and 80 kg N/ha. In the second experiment spring barley, field pea and mixture of the species were grown at 0 kg N/ha and 40 kg N/ha. Species interaction was quantified with competition indices such as: RY, RYT and Cb that were calculated for dry matter yields collected periodically during growing season. Increase in fertility of the environment caused by N addition adversely affected biodiversity of cereal - legume mixture
