Comparison of water-air properties of apple orchard soil in two soil management systems

The research were conducted in experimental apple orchard on Haplic Luvisol developed from silt formation. Green sward and wheat straw mulch were compared as soil management systems in tree rows. Similarly in Ap and Bt horizon of soil under straw mulch was found significantly greater actual moisture than in soil under green sward. In 10-20 cm layer of soil under straw mulch actual air permeability was greater. However, in 0-10 cm of soil under green sward maximum water capacity and retention of useful water were significantly greater and content of micropores less than 0.2 mim were significantly lower than in soil under straw mulch
