Carbon and nitrogen in organic matter fractions of Histosols located in upper valley of Liwiec river [Poland]

Organic matter of Histosols coming from the upper valley of Liwiec river (Siedlce Upland, Poland) has been investigated. The content of carbon and nitrogen in the solution after decalcitation, the content of bitumens, fulvic and humuic acids and extraction residue have been given. Lower content of organic carbon has been found, approximate content of total nitrogen and smaller C:N ratio, higher content of carbon after decalcitation, lower content of bitumes, but higher content of humificated organic matter and smaller ratios humic to fulvic acids, have been obtained for mucky samples comparing to peat samples
