The influence of the deep drainage of the brown coal strip mine at Belchatow [Poland] on soil water content

The aim of the research was to determine the influence exerted by the brown coal strip mine at Rogowiec (KWB Belchatow) on the moisture of light sandy soils utilized as arable land. Deep drainage of the mine at Rogowiec appeared to have no drying effect on the sandy soils in the superficial and deep layers tested. The effect concerned first of all the soil profiles without groundwater table. In the profiles with groundwater, deep drainage of the mine did not dry the superficial measurement horizons of the soils analysed
