Novel aspects of embryonic and foetal losses in sows of German Landrace

High number of live born and especially vital piglets are the basic requirement for an effective piglet production. In an experiment conducted in a pig breeding farm the amount of embryonic and fetal losses throughout gestation of sows of German Landrace has been investigated. The investigations have been done at day 2, 30 and 80 of pregnancy. At all 93 gilts have been used. The following parameters have been analyzed: number of ovulated oocytes, number of corpora lutea (c.l.), number, length and weight of embryos and foetuses, length and weight of ovary and uterus, tissue samples of locations of implantation an beside on day 30 and 80 of gestation.
