Aim of this paper is to point to new challenges for veterinary medicine in process of globalization, in relation with environment, and relationship between people and animals, which is also changing because of contemporary influence. Over the past century, the traditional role of veterinary medicine was to cure animal-causing diseases and protect human health. Nowadays, this role is going through a change, coming face to face with new challenges in view of socially responsible conduct of veterinarians in community, such as: prevention of animal-causing diseases; also technopathy disease caused by application of technology in production; development and implementation of prevention systems such as HACCP and ISO standards, all governed by legislation. This paper serves as a review of possible activities on area of veterinary medicine including: food safety, prevention and control of zoonoses and serious infectious diseases in particular, protecting environment and ecosystems and straightening the public health infrastructure, considered in light of social responsibility.
