Atterberg plastic limit was determined in topsoils (Ahp) and subsoil (Eg, gBt and Btg) horizons of pseudogley in South Macva (Serbia), as well as the contents of humus, clay (less than 0.002 mm), and colloidal activity index (Ica). The results of Atterberg plastic limits, taking into account all depths of the profiles under study, showed that the values of upper plastic limits (WI) varied in a rather wide interval, from 33.28 to 57.88%, and the values of the lower plastic limits (Wp) varied in a considerably narrow interval from 18.04 to 22.82%. The calculated plasticity index (Ip) varied from 15.24 to 36.70 which, according to Liberoth (1969) classification, characterises moderately to very plastic soils. A very strong correlation coefficient (r=0.833) between Ip and the clay content (less than 0.002 mm) indicates tha the particle-size distribution, i.e. the clay content, had the decisive effect on the value of plasticity index. High value of plasticity index in the majority of pseudogley profiles in South Macva are undesirable characteristics from the aspect of tillage and crop yield.
