Fertilization can substantially improve growing conditions for alfalfa cultivated in acid pseudogley. The paper gives results on alfalfa yield during the establishment year in two trials. The soil treatment with lime at application rates of 3 t/ha and 6 t/ha in the first trial resulted in significantly higher yields as compared to the control. In the second trial, green forage yield was significantly higher upon treatment with 5 t/ha lime and the combined treatment with 2.5 t/ha and 5 t/ha lime and 30 t/ha manure than in the control and 2.5 t/ha treatments.
