The first activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) were initiated in 1996, when monitoring was implemented in north-east BiH. This was followed by official monitoring in the Federation BiH in 1997 and in Republic of Srpska in 1998. Monitoring continued and results showed that the majority of the corn growing area in BiH were infested. The exceptions are the western and mountainous parts of BiH where corn growing areas are small. The pest population density are constantly rising and in some areas have reached a critical level when the damage from larvae in the following year are unavoidable. However, very significant damage from Western corn rootworm in BiH has not been registered due to specific edaphic-climatic conditions, fragmented and small land parcels, and education of corn growers.
