Fungi are important decomposers of organic matter abd sources of food and medicinal substances. Their role in the absorption and translocation of toxic metals in forest ecosystems is very important in terms of their contamination. The paper set out the basic mineral composition of eleven species of lignicolous and tericolous fungi collected from seven localities mainly in the Fruška Gora low mountain chain (Serbia). The concentration of macroelements (N, P, K) and micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Pb, Cu, Cr, Ni and Cd) in sporocarps of mushrooms was determined. According to statistical cluster analysis the two species of the fam. Boletaceae and species Auricularia mesenterica were separated as good potential bioindicator species of heavy metals in the substrate (Fe, Ni, and Cr).
