MTBE was introduced in production at the end of 20th century in order to enhance the gasoline octan number and reduce the air pollution. However, the investigations in Europe and USA showed that MTBE is one of soil and water pollutants. One of the methods for MTBE removed from contaminated environments is bioremediation. The aim of this paper is investigation of MTBE biodegradation by Staphylococcus saprophyticus and following of MTBE transformation. The results of research showed that this bacteria is efficient in MTBE transformation. During the transformation were detected the non-toxic products for living organisms, which makes adequacy for application of Staphylococcus saprophyticus in bioremediation of MTBE-polluted soils and waters.
