Researches were carried out in the Ryazan region in 2004-2006. Potato tubers were subjected before planting to separate or to combined action of incoherent red light (IRL) and ozone. These modes of treatment have positively affected on potato productivity, and also promoted quality of tubers. In them the increase in the content of dry matter, starch and ascorbic acid is noted. The content of nitrates (NC) in tubers during research period did not exceed admissible norms and strongly depended on weather conditions. In the optimum year characterized by proportional humidifying during season and some elevated temperature of air NC was minimum and has made 88.2 mg/kg for variety Santeh and 55.1 mg/kg for variety Lugovskoj. In droughty weather conditions NC in tubers was higher in 1.4-1.6 times. Ozonization reduced NC in insignificant degree and IRL-treatment reduced NC more. As a result of treatments it was possible to reduce NC in 1.16-1.19 times (on the average for 3 years) in comparison with the control. The effect can be explain by retardation of dying off of leaves at the processed plants that conducts to increase of efficiency of photosynthesis and increase in quantity of carbohydrates, capable to get bound with nitrates. Data that NC in tubers of late varieties more low than in tubers of early varieties are confirmed. The studied method of preplanting treatment of potato tubers is recommended to introduction in seed growing and plant growing practice.
