The proximate analysis and degradation in the rumen of Nubian goats were determined for different parts of Leucaena leucocephala in the Gezira, Sudan. The dry matter varied among different parts of L. leucocephala and was higher in pods (683.3 - 816.7 g/kg) than leaves (392.0 g/kg) and generally decreased with advanced pods maturity. The ether extract was higher in the leaves (45.0 g/kg) than pods (30 - 40 g/ kg). Crude protein was higher in pods (262.5 g/kg) than leaves (227.5 g/ kg) or pods 2 + leaves (227.5 g/kg) and was not affected by the pods stage of maturity. Crude fibre was higher in pods 2 + leaves (225.0 g/kg) -and least in leaves (185.0 g/kg) and was not greatly affected by the stages of pods maturity (170 - 185 g/kg). Nitrogen free extract was highest in leaves (492.5 g/kg) and least in mature pods (427.5 g/kg) and generally decreased with advanced pods maturity. Crude protein degradation was generally higher than dry and organic matters, except for the leaves where it was the least. The rumen degradation was highest for the semi-mature pods followed by pods approaching maturity and was least in the mature pods. Degradation characteristics were affected by the stage of maturity and were generally highest in the semi mature pods and least in the mature pods. The leaves had the highest part degraded with time (b). The results furnished information for the application of the new protein system for ruminants and highlighted that L. leucocephala is promising forage for ruminants in the Sudan and pods should be harvested at earlier stages of maturity
