To evaluate the feeding value of domestic distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS), produced in an ethanol plant in Pischelsdorf (Lower Austria), a feeding trial with 36 dairy cows was conducted. The animals were divided into three equivalent groups. The control group (Control) received concentrates with rapeseed meal, soybean meal and peas as protein components. Group V100 received concentrates with DDGS as the sole protein source while group V50 was fed a mixture (50:50) of both experimental concentrates to obtain a protein supply of 50 % out of DDGS. Forage was offered as a mixed ration. No significant differences in feed intake and milk production were observed between the experimental groups. Forage intake averaged 14.1 kg of dry matter, concentrates intake was 4.51 kg DM. Energy corrected milk yield (ECM) was 21.5, 21.9 and 21.2 kg ECM in Control, V50 and V100, respectively. There neither were significant differences in milk components (3.6 % protein and 4.4 % fat in average).
