The pesticides in waterbodies and the need of toxicity testing
2008
Ríhová Ambrožová, J., Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague (Czech Republic)
The problems of pesticide and herbicide, occurred in water bodies and food web interaction, the influence on the algal growth are mentioned in the paper. At present is necessary to test the possible toxicity of the increasing amount of artificial compounds from the point of view of aquatic environment. Therefore it is important not only to make faster the own procedure of toxicity tests, but also to increase their reproducibility. At the same time the need of international standardisation has became urgent. Several ecotoxicological methods are based upon local conditions of laboratories e.g. on the availability of test organism or on the demands of legislation. From this point of view it is very perspective to extend standard methods into as many countries as possible. The good way to do that is the introduction of new alternative methods - toxkits.
