The influence of nitrogen fertilization on starch content and amino-acid composition of very early-harvested potato tubers | Vliv dusíkatého hnojení na obsah škrobu a aminokyselinové složení bramborových hlíz

The impact of nitrogen fertilization on crop yield, dry matter content, starch, crude protein and amino acids in potato tubers were examined in this study. The questionable points were dealt with by means of pot experiment in a sheltered vegetation hall. Very early-harvested potatoes of KORUNA variety were used as the indicator plants. Three variants were used without the addition of nitrogen to the soil, with additional fertilizing by means of 20 mg N per kg of the soil (60 kg N per ha) and of 40 mg N per kg of the soil (120 kg N per ha). Nitrogen was applied in the form of ammonium nitrate one week before planting. The harvest took place after 90 days of a vegetation period, when the tubers are ripe for consumption. Increasing amount of nitrogen in the soil increased the crop yield of potato tubers. At the same time a decrease in dry matter content was observed. The increased amount of nitrogen in the soil appeared to be statistically significant for the decrease in starch content and crude protein in fresh matter of tubers. The ratio of amino acids in relation to total nitrogen decreased. In the case of amino acids, decreasing amount of arginine, glutamic and aspartic acids were the most evident.
