In Turkey, as having valuable natural, historic and cultural settlements, most of its cities have developed either with plans having no concern of protection or even without a plan due to rapid urbanization, technologic advances and increase in population since 1950's. Rate of advance and growth processes of the cities has caused desultary urbanization and numerous problems about transportation, infrastructure, visual and enviromental pollution accordingly. The scope of this research, within the frame of Çankırı case, is to highlight the role and importance of urban aesthetic in the integration of cities with modern living conditions in order to assure their proper transfer to next generations as livable spaces.

Doğal, tarihi ve kültürel değerler açısından zengin yerleşmelere sahip olan Türkiye'de özellikle 1950'lerden sonra yaşanan hızlı kentleşme, teknolojik gelişmeler ve nüfus artışı ile kentlerin çoğu plansız ya da koruma kaygısı taşımayan planlarla gelişmiştir. Kentlerin gelişme ve büyüme süreçlerinin hızı, çarpık yapılaşma ve buna bağlı sayısız denebilecek altyapı, ulaşım, görsel ve çevre kirliliği gibi sorunları da beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu araştırmanın amacı; kentlerin çağdaş yaşam koşullarıyla entegrasyonunun sağlanarak yaşanabilir mekanlar olarak gelecek kuşaklara aktarılmasında, kentsel estetiğin öneminin Çankırı kenti örneğinde ortaya konmasıdır.
