The gravity concrete dam design method were applied so early. Therefore, some regulations are not suited with the development of today's design procedure. Normally, in analyzing the stresses of the dams, designers only analyze the stresses of dams in the elastic stage, and thus does not indicate the true working conditions of the materials in the body of the concrete dams. This journal shows the way to analyze the stresses of the concrete dams by finite element methods which relates to nonlinear analysis of the material making the body of concrete dams. The results of these analyses show the main difference between two ways in analyzing the stresses of concrete dams, and base on these results designers can make suitable structures. These research results shwoed in this journal can be the good references for designers.
