Kumanov, K., Institute of Fruit Growing, Plovdiv (Bulgaria)
Microirrigation is a contemporary and efficient method of irrigation. It is welcomed all over the world and has been used with most agricultural crops. However, the incompetent handling can easily turn the powerful effect into a production, financial and even ecological disaster. The engineering, agronomical, technological, economical, and, last but not least, managerial incompetence have caused the failures associated with the adoption of microirrigation by the farmers. Investigations with microirrigation of fruit trees has proven that evaporation losses can be significant, depending on both soil and climate conditions. A conclusion is drawn regarding the necessity of improvement of the irrigation scheduling; the application efficiency estimation could be based on physical and mathematical models, describing the evaporation losses in function of soil and climatic characteristics and taking in account the specifics of the irrigation equipment.
