The influence of low positive temperature (+2 deg C, 24 hours) and negative temperature (-5 deg C, 5 hours) on the content of stress proteins such as dehydrins and heat shock protein (HSP70) in green leaves of barley (Hordeum vulgare) is investigated. The content of dehydrins increase at the low positive temperature stress conditions (+2 deg C, 24 hours) while under the action of negative temperature (-5 deg C, 5 hours) the amount of dehydrins does not change and remains at the control level. Dehydrin content increases during the post-stress period in plants of both variants. The level of HSP70 under the stress condition (+2 deg C, 24 hours) as well as (-5 deg C, 5 hours) increases whereas the Hsp70 amounts decreases in post-stress period. The data shows an important role of the HSP70 in protection of barley leaves from low temperature stress and the role of dehydrins during adaptation of the plant to the above mentioned stress conditions.
