In the present study, plant tissue culture technique was used to choose the best sugarbeet varieties and media for callus growth and subsequently plant regeneration. The aim of this investigation is to test the ability of four varieties and two lines of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) to produce embryogenic callus in addition to give shoot and root regeneration in suitable media using two types of explant. The results indicated that using hypocotyl explant gave the best results for callus induction, embryogenic callus and callus weight. Medium C (MS+lmg/1 BA+0.5 mg/I NAA) gave the best results for shoot formation while the best root regeneration was obtained using medium D (MS without hormone).
