Effect of child labour on nutritional, health status and self esteem in a sample of children in alexandria comparative study

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of child labour on nutritional, health status and selfe-steem in a sample of working and non working children in group of age 9-15 y. in Alexandria. Data were collected through personal interview with children's, to fill especial designed questionnaire sheet. The most important resul There were a highly significant differences (P_0.01) between the working children and the control group, for the educational level of the parents, the occupational level of the fathers, number of brothers, income per capita, and crowded index. The results also, showed that there were a significant correlation (P _ 0.05) between the two groups for the level of nutritional knowledge. For the nutritional status of the two groups, the results revealed that the children in the control group were better than the tested children for calories intake, protein intake, pho intake, iron intake, and riboflavin intake, the differences were highly significant (P _ 0.01), but the working children were better than the children in the control group for vitamin (A) intake. The weights mean for the children in the control group was better than that of the working children group, the differences was highly significant (P_ 0.05), the Heights mean for the children in the control group was better than that of the working children group but only in the age's group 12y, 14y+, the different were significant (P_ 0.05, 0.01 resp.) The levels of clinical signs, and health status for the non working children were better than working children, the differences were significant and highly significant, respectively. For the level of self-esteem, The results showed that the children in the control group had better scores than those in the working children group, and the difference was highly significant (P_ 0.01).
