In order to detect possible occurrence of different shapes of lactation curves for milk, fat and protein 34031 records of 6807 first lactation of Murciano Granadina goats monitored between 1999 and 2010 in Valencia were analysed. The functions used to describe the lactation curve were Wood, Wilmink, Ali-Schaeffer and Legendre polynomials. Parameters were estimated by iterative methods. The criterion of choice to verify the goodness of fit was the adjusted coefficient of determination (R2 A). Three-parameter models detected 4 shapes of lactation curve. Wood model classified as standard the 64 % of lactation for milk while 56 and 60 % belonged to the standard reverse for fat and protein, respectively. The Wilmink function showed the same behaviour with values of 59, 48 and 52 % for milk, fat and protein respectively. Ali-Schaeffer and Legendre's Polynomials models were able to recognize from 14 to 22 shapes of lactation curve. The results suggest that analysis based on average curve hide the individual behaviour on the population.
