The aim of the current investigation was to assess the possibilities of chemotherapy against paramphistomidae infection (Calicophoron daubneyi) in autochthonous Rubia Gallega cattle. For this purpose, three groups were considered: Nb, 14 animals treated with netobimin (Hapasil); Oz, 15 cattle receiving oxyclozanide (Zanil) and T, 7 infected animals remaining untreated as controls. The efficacy of the chemotherapy was assessed by estimating the Efficacy Index 1 (reduction on the fecal egg-output) and Efficacy Index 2 (reduction on the cattle shedding eggs by feces). The Calicophoron egg-output reduced to the 3rd week after the treatment with Netobimin, and then increased again to then end of study. In the cattle receiving oxyclozanide, Calicophoron-eggs were not observed in the feces from the 3rd to the 13th week after treatment. The EI1 values ranged from 0 to 87% in the group Nb, and between 87 and 100% in the group Nz. The EI2 values oscillated between 0 and 64% after the treatment with Netobimin, and between 7 and 100% in the Zanil-treated cattle.
