This research was carried out to recognize the trees and shrubs of Mazandaran province, their sites and genetic variation as well as conserving their seeds at Iranian natural resources gene bank. Considering of mentioned issue, the sites of Betula pendula, Juniperus exelsa, Cerasus avium, Parotia persica, Buxus hyrcana, Acer velutinum, Sorbus aucuparia and Thuja orientalis were recognized. Totally sample of seeds and leaves were collected from 304 individual trees and shrubs from 34 sites. The collected seeds delivered to Research Institute of Forest and Rangeland. To study of genetic variation of maple seedlings towards cold and warm hardiness, a number of seeds were planted in a forest nursery. Leaf morphology variation of Parotia persica and Buxus hyrcana in different sites were determined too. This study indicated that 120 tree and shrubs species were found in mazandaran province forests. Just 3.3 percent of them have normal distribution. Nearly 33 percent are in vulnerable and 5 percent of them are in endangered situation. There were significant deference between summer and winter survival as well as height growth of maple seedlings related to seed sources. Genetic variation coefficient and heritability of winter survival and height growth of seedlings was higher than the other trials. Difference between population was significant in most leaf characteristics both in Buxus hyrcana and Parotia persica populations. It is strongly recommended that this research should be due to its importance. Determination of priority of seed collecting should be done zonal and perfectly with the beginning in three province in north of Iran (Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan). Some of species such as Betula pendula, Juniperus exeelsa, Sorbus aucuparia and Thuja orientalis has limited habitats and are in endangered situation, so in addition of conserving their seeds on gene bank, they must be protected in their natural habitats. Also for conservation of some species such as Parotia persica, Buxus hyrcana, and Acer velutinum even Cerasus avium, It is better that their seedlings were planted in Chamestan Research Station as a progeny-provenance test.
