To establish the optimum side dressing rate of slow release fertilizer(SRF) at the system of partial-tillage direct seeding on dry paddy cultivation, this studies were conducted with Dongjinbyeo in Jeonbuk series of fluvio marine alluvial soil at National Institute of Crop Science in Iksan from 2001 to 2002. Were investigated the rice growth and the degree of field lodging according to side dressing rate of SRF. Nitrogen utilization rate was higher in side dressing of SRF than in conventional application. However, the higher application of SRF resulted in the lower nitrogen utilization rate of rice. The degree of field lodging of rice didn't occurred upto 80% side dressing of SRF but occurred by 3 degree at 100% side dressing of SRF. Panicle number per ㎡ was not different between the conventional application and 70~80% side dressing of SRF but increased at 100% side dressing of SRF. Ripened grain ratio and 1000 grain weight of brown rice were not different among three different application rates of SRF. Milled rice yield was not different among the conventional application, 80% and 100% side dressing rates but significantly decreased at 70% side dressing rate. Therefore, the optimum side dressing rate of SRF in partial- tillage direct seeding on dry paddy in Honam Plain Area was 80%.
