Factors determining distributions of sulphides (H2So+HS-) in groundwater aquifers are analysed. They are divided into three groups of factors: 1) geological and hydro geological, 2) hydro chemical factors, 3) hydro microbiological. A short overview on recent investigations in this field is provided. Stated, that maximal velocity of sulphate reduction and sulphide content is found in the ''Kemeri-Jaunkemeri'' occurrence: 0.071 mg LE-1 d and 74 mg LE-1. Those values for the ''Hilovo'' and ''Baldone'' are: velocity of sulphate reduction - 0.032 mg L**1 d and 0.019 mg LE-1 d; sulphides content - 29 mg LE-1 and 16 mg LE-1 correspondingly. It is concluded that the factor limiting the velocity of sulphate reduction is too low concentration of organic matter acceptable for sulphate reduction bacteria.
