Iv vitro and in vivo evaluation of ciprofloxacin in Escherichia coli infection in broilers
2006
Faiz, M.
Fifty E. coli infected farms located in district Toba Tek Singh were visited from September to December 2005 obtain data pertaining to antibiotic usage pattern, storage of antibiotics, withdrawal period and farmers perceptions on antibiotic resistance. Data collected from these farms showed that mostly farmers rely on quinolones (especially ciprofloxacin) to combat E. coli infection. E. coli isolates were collected from all the infected farms. Seven different antimicrobial drugs, which include Ciprofloxacin, Enrofloxacin, Gentamycin, Oxytetracycline, Colistin, Neomycin and Amoxicillin, were used to determine the sensitivity of isolates. Under in vitro conditions, Ciprofloxacin, Enrofloxacin, and Gentamycin emerged as drug of choice in order of their decreasing importance in this experiment. On the basis of antibiogram study, the efficacy of Ciprofloxacin was determined under in vivo conditions in part II of the present project.
